    Lake Michigan Credit Union is looking for a dedicated individual to join our team as a Payroll Coordinator. 


    • Assisting in entering payroll data into the computer, makes corrections to time entries, enters deduction information, and final pay adjustments. Running payroll and corresponding reports in a timely manner. Processing and reconciling weekly report required by the Retirement Plan trustee for deposit. Processing garnishments, and incentive/sales/referral bonuses. Assisting with creating new positions setups and updating current position setups in Kronos and maintains the system to ensure its functioning as determined by organizational needs. Working closely with IT to resolve any technical issues and/or make system changes as deemed necessary.
    • Assisting with all in-house payroll procedures, including regular, bonus, incentive and manual payrolls, such as entering automated payroll data accurately, processing employee timecards, maintaining employee tax deductions and exemptions, and monitoring employees data files on-line, including medical leave, benefits and promotions and terminations, and other deductions as approved by the employee. Assisting with preparing incentive files prior to payroll processing. Reconciling general ledger distribution report with each payroll run. Distributing pertinent information to the appropriate parties regarding each payroll after payroll close.
    • Assisting in reviewing and approving/posting all employee changes and separations in OnBase and Kronos submitted by managers. Assisting in the pre-employment process by requesting credit and background checks for all potential new hire candidates.
    • Responsible for entering and reviewing NMLS related information and communicating updates to employees, as necessary. Entering all new hires into Kronos and preparing all new hire forms in preparation for new hires starting with the credit union. Reviewing, responding to, and filing all verification of employments requests.
    • Assisting in reporting accurate information concerning payroll to various state and governmental agencies. Assisting in preparing and submitting state and governmental reports, including but not limited to, FUTA, SUTA, UI, W/C and tax deposits. Assisting in gathering and presenting information for any payroll related audits (i.e. worker’s compensation audits, unemployment compensation audits, 401K audits, etc.)

    • Complying with garnishment laws and regulations. Contacting employees to notify them of garnishment actions and explaining how the garnishment is calculated, unusual circumstances surrounding their paycheck, i.e. Underpayment of deductions, etc. Ensuring garnishments checks are mailed to creditors’ attorneys on the date the payroll register is posted. Assisting in coordinating and reconciling year end payroll processing including the preparation and distribution of W-2 forms and state forms is done in a timely manner.


    Preferred Education and Experience:


    • Minimum of 1-3 years of similar or related experience coupled with a college degree. 
    • Solid understanding of payroll and payroll tax laws coupled with ability to appropriately translate this understanding into action.
    • Strong attention to detail and problem solving skills.
